A long weekend or seven days among villages, woods, and shops, following the journey of Catarina Rivera, known online as Blindish Latina.

Discover Sauris and the Friulian foothills through wool, herbs and mountain flavours. Inspired by an October 2026 trip with Catarina Rivera, known as Blindish Latina, a content creator and disability rights advocate who is blind and hard of hearing, this itinerary brings together multisensory experiences particularly suited to families and groups of friends that include blind or partially sighted people.

You can spend seven days exploring an itinerary that extends to Pradis, Travesio and Maniago, or opt for three days in Sauris, enjoying a selection of the experiences.

At the end of the article, you will find all the useful links with the complete accessibility sheets, structure by structure.

Seven days between Sauris and the Friulian foothills

With a full week, you can enjoy the activities at a relaxed pace, with time for breaks and meeting local people. The itinerary includes four nights in Sauris and two in the Lestans area, before rounding off your trip in Maniago and Meduno. Spring, summer and autumn are all ideal seasons for this journey.

Day 1 – Meet Sauris and its community

The journey begins in Sauris di Sopra, with accommodation at the Albergo Diffuso Sauris, which carries on the legacy of Borgo San Lorenzo, established here in 1994 as the first diffused hotel operating in Italy. Staying in the village's houses means getting closer to the life of the village, in a place that pioneered this form of hospitality.

The first discovery of the territory is accompanied by Mattia from the Sauris Zahre business network, who during Catarina's visit shared the history, origins, and local architectures. Through his explanations, we learn about the connection between the buildings, the landscape, and the community, meeting the protagonists of the town's hospitality.

The rest of the afternoon leaves time to settle in and rest before dinner at S’Eike. Here, gourmet pizzas meet the craft beer Zahre, with pairings designed to enhance ingredients and flavors: a first taste of the territory to share at the table.

Day 2 – Weaving: discovering through touch

Spend the morning in Sauris di Sotto at Beibarhaus, Cristian’s weaving workshop. Discover the craft through the fibres, tools and skilled movements that turn threads into fabric.

During Catarina’s visit, she had the chance to try her hand at weaving on a loom. It’s an experience well suited to a small group: participants take turns, explore the materials and follow the weaving process through touch and the artisan’s explanations. The varied textures of the yarns and the movement of the loom bring the craft to life.

Lunch can be an opportunity to discover other local flavors: cheeses, mountain vegetables, and regional recipes. In the afternoon, there is time to explore Sauris di Sotto and its shops, or for a tasting of local cured meats at the Prosciuttificio Wolf.

Day 3 – From the forest to the wellness centre in Treinke

The day is dedicated to the natural environment, with a guided experience of forest bathing in the Treinke area, like the one experienced by Catarina with Stefania Gentili from “La Via Selvatica”.

Explore the forest with the right timings to tune into your senses: the scents of the plants, the temperature of the air, and the sounds and textures the guide invites you to discover. It’s a chance to slow down and notice details you might otherwise miss on a walk. Discuss the terrain, gradients, duration and any support needs with the guide in advance, so the experience can be tailored to everyone taking part.

After forest bathing, the sensory experience can continue at the Grien SPA, near the Treinke campsite, between Sauris di Sopra and Sauris di Sotto. The pool with a hot tub, saunas, steam room, and relaxation areas invite you to dedicate the afternoon to the sensations of water and warmth. On weekends, according to the schedule, the Aufguss rituals in the sauna add the scents of essential oils.

The pool also welcomes families with children, while the wellness area is reserved for people aged 16 and over. Before your visit, check opening hours and availability and agree with the staff on any orientation and accompaniment needs.

Day 4 – Herbs, herbal teas, and Saurana cuisine

The workshop with the Pa’ Mairlan agricultural company leads to the discovery of herbs and the composition of a personalized herbal tea. Smelling, distinguishing, and combining the ingredients becomes a way to get closer to the local plants and compare one's perceptions with those of others.

The choice of fragrances and combinations makes the workshop a personal experience, to be shared through impressions, memories, and preferences.

During the rest of the day, you can continue to explore Sauris or book a break at the Ghesunthaus SPA, the private wellness space of the Albergo Diffuso in Sauris di Sopra.

Dinner at Pa’ Krhaizar, in nearby Lateis, concludes the stay with a meeting dedicated to Sauran cuisine and hospitality.

Day 5 – Pradis Caves: Earth’s history at your fingertips

You leave Sauris to reach the Pradis Caves, where water, rock, and prehistoric evidence come together in a path to explore through touch and listening.

During the trip, Giuliano Cescutti, mayor of Clauzetto, the municipality of which Pradis is a part, presented to us the accessibility project dedicated to blind and partially sighted visitors. Along the route, 3D printed reproductions of fossils and archaeological finds allow us to learn about shapes and details that tell the story of the transformations of the territory and human presence.

The installations are accompanied by audio content accessible through the free BlindTAG app, to be downloaded on your smartphone. The tags along the route allow you to listen to the explanations of the various stages; the system also provides orientation information and signals obstacles, facilitating an independent visit for visitors with visual disabilities.

The route integrates tactile ground guides, handrails with tactile signals, visual contrasts on the steps, and guide ropes in sections without continuous supports. Before the visit, it is useful to gather information about the characteristics of the path, which includes staircases, to choose how to explore it according to one's needs.

The discovery can continue in the nearby Cave Museum, among testimonies of prehistoric life and finds from the area. The day also allows for a stop in the woods, before the transfer to Corte Morea, in Lestans, the venue chosen for this leg of Catarina's journey.

Day 6 – La Zalpa: meetings in the countryside

The day is dedicated to the La Zalpa farm, in the area of Travesio, with a program to be built together with Edoardo, the founder of Zalpa. The proposals may include an activity with alpacas and llamas, a visit to the Bee House, a lunch at the farm, and a stretch of the path towards Toppo.

The encounters with animals and the storytelling of agricultural activities allow for a closer connection to the life of the farm with different timings than a simple visit. For the experiences with alpacas and llamas and for the Bee House, agree on how the interactions will take place and what exploration opportunities will be offered.

The walking section towards Toppo can be tailored according to the interests and needs of the group, checking the terrain, length, and possibility of stops.

In addition, we have an additional nature guide who enriched Catarina's journey, with a very interesting and engaging Forest Bathing experience, Cristina Azzalini with her project "Linfea".

A second night in the Lestans area allows for continuing the tour without changing accommodation again.

Day 7 – Maniago: craft art and scents to create

The last day begins at the Maniago Museum of Metalwork and Cutlery, where we learn about a tradition that has marked the history and identity of the city.

During Catarina's trip, Giulia Oblach, a blind museum guide, accompanied the sensory visit, sharing the discovery of the manufacturing tradition through touch and storytelling. The exploration of shapes and materials allows for a closer look at the craftsmanship and for sharing questions and impressions within the group. This type of visit must be arranged with the museum at the time of booking.

The journey continues with the Saliet agricultural company of Claut workshop, dedicated to essential oils and the creation of a personalized perfume. Recognizing fragrances, comparing them, and choosing how to combine them makes the sense of smell the protagonist of the activity.

The laboratory can be organized at the company's location in Claut or, by prior agreement, at another location along the route. For this day, it is advisable to agree on a location in the Maniago area, in order to limit travel.

A lunch at the Agriturismo Ai Pradons, in Meduno, concludes the week, before returning or extending the stay.

Do you only have three days? A weekend in Sauris

If you’re short on time, focus your trip on Sauris with a two-night stay and a selection of experiences exploring village life, local crafts and nature.

Day 1 – The village, its stories and local flavors

Arrival at the Albergo Diffuso Sauris and visit to Sauris di Sopra with Mattia from the Sauris Zahre network, to be arranged in advance. The afternoon introduces the history of the village and its community, before dinner at S’Eike, featuring gourmet pizzas and pairings with Zahre beers.

Day 2 – From the frame to the scents of herbs

The morning is dedicated to Beibarhaus, Cristian's weaving, with the exploration of fibers and a weaving experience by reservation.

After lunch, the workshop with Pa’ Mairlan invites you to learn about herbs and create a personalized herbal tea. The day concludes at Lateis, with a dinner at Pa’ Krhaizar.

Day 3 – The forest and a final wellness break

The last morning takes you to the area of Treinke for forest bathing with Stefania Gentili from “La Via Selvatica”, choosing with her the duration and route.

If the return times allow it, after lunch you can add a break at the Grien SPA, checking its opening hours. Alternatively, there is still time for a stop at the shops and last-minute purchases before departure.

A trip to organize together

The common thread of these itineraries is the possibility to share the discovery through multiple senses, with particular attention for blind and partially sighted travellers: touch in weaving and at the museum, smell in the herb and perfume workshops, taste at the table, and storytelling during meetings with the community.

The activities are inspired by the program organized for Catarina and require a reservation: availability, group sizes, and participation methods must be agreed upon with the individual operators. Communicating your preferences and access needs allows for the preparation of appropriate descriptions, tactile explorations, and suitable accompaniment.

For the accommodations and listed places, consult the accessibility sheets on FVG for Everyone and discuss with the operators the relevant aspects for your group.

Choose the experiences that intrigue you and build your journey between Sauris and the Friulian foothills, following the scents, materials, flavors, and stories of the area.
