Trains represent a comfortable and accessible option to visit Friuli Venezia Giulia. The railway trains serving the region mostly have carriages equipped for passengers in wheelchairs.

On modern regional trains (such as Jazz, Swing, Civity, etc.), there are reserved seats for travelers in wheelchairs and their companions, spaces with anchoring systems for wheelchairs, retractable ramps or lowered floors to facilitate access, as well as accessible restrooms on board. Access to the train usually occurs via a mobile lift operated by station staff. To obtain assistance at the station, it is necessary to communicate your needs with at least 24 hours' notice by contacting the Sala Blu (in person, via email, or through specific online services).
Specialized staff will provide support based on the traveler's level of autonomy and at no additional cost, in compliance with current regulations on the rights of passengers with disabilities.

To move around the region, why not try the sea connections as well?

Various routes are accessible to people with mobility disabilities thanks to dedicated means and procedures. In particular, the maritime line Trieste–Muggia (operating year-round as part of the local TPL on the Delfino Verde ferries) and seasonal tourist lines (e.g., summer connections between Trieste, Grado, Lignano Sabbiadoro, and intermediate locations) allow access for passengers in wheelchairs.

Boarding and disembarking take place via special ramps/mobile platforms, with the assistance of the crew both at the departure port and upon arrival. For safety reasons, the captain of the ferry has the authority to authorize or deny the transport of a specific wheelchair on board after assessing the travel conditions – for example, the available space on the deck and the weather and sea conditions.

In any case, all ferries in service are equipped with suitable ramps and reserved seats for passengers with reduced mobility. Once on board, the wheelchair must be positioned according to the crew's instructions, and the staff provides assistance during the crossing and at the docking (for example, helping with disembarking). Even for maritime connections, it is advisable to notify the service provider (or the TPL FVG call center) in advance of any specific needs to allow for optimal organization of the reception at the port.

By bike (free!)

As part of the A-Mare il Mare project, PromoTurismoFVG has purchased in various locations in Friuli Venezia Giulia special bikes and aids for accessible cycling tourism, designed to make it easier to enjoy the coastal and lagoon areas.
The bicycles are available free of charge, subject to availability and upon reservation or request at the points indicated in the municipalities of Lignano Sabbiadoro, Monfalcone, and Staranzano. It is recommended to always contact the relevant office before the visit, to check availability, pick-up times, any required documents, and usage methods. Soon, information will also be available for using the bicycles in the municipalities of Grado, Marano Lagunare, and Muggia.
