Accessible Sauris

An award that becomes an opportunity

Sauris was recognized by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in 2023 as Best Tourism Village, an award that highlights a long-term path oriented towards sustainability and the goals of the UN 2030 Agenda.
This recognition has strengthened the community's desire to continue growing, making the tourism offer increasingly attentive to the needs of all people.

A shared project for a more inclusive destination

From here comes “Sauris Accessible”, the project developed in 2024 by the Municipality of Sauris together with PromoTurismoFVG, CRIBA FVG, and CRAD FVG, with the aim of clearly and reliably documenting the level of accessibility of tourist facilities and services.

This is the first accessibility mapping project carried out in a mountainous context in Friuli Venezia Giulia, designed to provide useful and concrete information to those visiting the area.

The mapping and the results

The project involved 28 facilities out of 36, accounting for about 80% of the potentially interested offer. In addition to accommodation and dining facilities, the mapping included cultural sites, activities with sales areas, wellness services, and reserved parking.

The results provide a positive picture: despite the natural complexities related to the mountains, Sauris is able to offer a varied and complete tourist experience. In particular, 78% of the surveyed structures have solutions that allow for a good level of accessibility, confirming that even small mountain villages can be welcoming and inclusive.
