DEPARTURE
Church of St. Mark the Evangelist
The path called "I mazzuoli del Villaggio del Pescatore" è is quite short (about 1.8 Km) and extends between the tourist-residential center of Villaggio del Pescatore with its two islets in front of the small harbor and the path adjacent to the course of the Timavo river.
The path begins near the Church of S. Marco Evangelista; there are parking spaces for cars parallel to the road, but there are no dedicated stalls for people with disabilities nearby (Photo 1).
The starting point is indicated by a specific descriptive panel (Photo 2) and there are no further directional signs. After passing the panel, you access the pier towards the “Squero”, the center of the village. The width of the pier è is wide (about 3 meters), lacking protective barriers with boats moored on the left (Photo 3);
About 200 meters from the starting point, after passing the pier, you reach the vicinity of the Squero, a space with partly cemented and partly paved flooring (Photo 4); also at this point there are no directional indicators, so reference is made to the map present on the starting path signboard (Photo 5).
After passing the Squero (Photo 6), there is a narrowing of the pedestrian passage: the width in this section is about 1.5 m. To reach the bridge, which allows access to the first island, it is necessary to overcome a 3-meter long concrete ramp with an incline of about 10 degrees (Photo 7).
After the ramp, the left turn to reach the bridge to be crossed is indicated on the map; there is no signage along the route (Photo 8).
After crossing the concrete bridge, there is access to the Sports Center, which is closed to vehicle passage by a barrier. The possible pedestrian access route presents difficulties as it is sloped with a gravel surface (Photo 9), and there are narrowings due to the presence of a public lighting pole.
After passing the entrance of the Sports Center, you access the first island; the path continues on a dirt track about 3 meters wide, in the shade of the trees, and after a first right turn and a subsequent left turn (Photo 10), a straight section is encountered.
The straight section, about 300 meters long, runs alongside a canal with moored boats on the right and the buildings of the Sports Center with the football field on the left (Photo 11); the ground is unpaved with sparse gravel and the presence of some puddles and depressions due to the passage of vehicles (Photo 12).
At km 0.700 from the start, the straight section intersects the junction that allows, on the return, the closure of the loop of the first island. Continue straight to access the second island.
At the end of the straight section (at about km 0.800 from the start), a wide curve to the right allows reaching the second rectangular island; in this passage, the ground is uneven with very deep puddles (Photo 13). There are no directional indicators.
At about km 0.900 the path becomes grassy and uneven; at times, fine gravel is noticeable (Photo 14).
At km 0.950 from the start, the unpaved path that runs along the canal with the moored boats becomes impassable due to deep depressions and extensive puddles (Photo 15 and photo 16).
To proceed, it is necessary to follow a very narrow path (about 50 cm), elevated and parallel to the dirt track (Photo 17).
As you travel this dirt section, the ground becomes increasingly uneven, with the presence of holes, protruding roots, and large stones (Photo 18). There are also concrete manholes that protrude about 10 cm from the ground (Photo 19), posing a possible tripping hazard.
Both sections of the first long side of the island present difficulties in traversing: the one on the left (Photo 20), narrower, has a ground with roots, stones, and protruding manholes, while the one on the right (Photo 21), wider, features extensive muddy areas with deep puddles.
At the intersection of the two paths (Photo 23), the route continues on a single wide dirt track in the woods, running alongside the pier on the right (Photo 24).
The section of the second long side of the island (about 1.1 km from the start) has an uneven surface with the presence of stones and medium-sized gravel (Photo 25)
Due to ongoing work that prevents passage, the closure of the loop path of the second island is anticipated, passing through the meadow that precedes the storage center of the Sailing School (Photo 26 and Photo 27). Consequently, it is necessary to retrace some sections already traversed earlier to return to the first island (Photo 28).
Reaching the fork again, near the soccer field of the first island, turn right to complete the path on a dirt road (Photo 29).
At the end of the detour, bend left towards the exit from the Sports Center; now you will follow the canal and the pier on the right, keeping the buildings of the Sports Center on the left. In this section, at about 1.400 km from the start, there is deep and coarse gravel (Photo 30).
At 1.500 km from the start, the loop path of the first island ends, corresponding to the exit from the Sports Center (Photo 31).
Retracing the bridge (Photo 32) and the section on the pier (Photo 33), the path concludes with the explanatory sign of 10,000 steps and with the stalls dedicated to parking at the starting point (about 1.800 km from the start).
