Sea, sports, nature, and hospitality: Lignano Sabbiadoro offers many opportunities to experience an active holiday, thanks to facilities, services, and equipment designed to meet various accessibility needs.
To discover and try them, we went to Lignano together with Luca Da Prato, world and European record holder of the Italian national team in paraswimming. Originally from Medea, in the province of Gorizia, Luca competes for ASD Gorizia Nuoto and has included this experience in Lignano in his busy training schedule, while preparing for the upcoming competitions and, who knows, for the conquest of a new title. His stay took us from the pool to the sea, from the beach to the banks of the Tagliamento, among water sports, excursions, accessible services, and some well-deserved moments of relaxation.
Water sports at the Shell Island with Sea4All
The first stop was Tiliaventum, a sports association active in Lignano Sabbiadoro with courses, outings, and experiences dedicated to water sports.
From the Punta Faro base, we reached by sea the Isola delle Conchiglie, the stretch of coast in front of Lignano where, during the summer season, kitesurfing and wing activities take place.
Here Luca was able to try some of the proposals of the Sea4All project: adapted SUP, wing, and kitesurf. With the support of the instructors and equipment equipped with seats and stabilization systems, he first experimented with the movements and commands, and then challenged himself directly on the water.
Between the speed of the board, the strength of the wind, the result was an intense and adrenaline-filled afternoon, which concretely shows how sport can become an experience to share.
Sport, hospitality and beach
The next day began at Bella Italia EFA Village, a true sports village immersed in the pine forest, where Luca trained in the morning in the 50-meter indoor Olympic swimming pool during his stay in Lignano. The facility brings together sports facilities, accommodations, dining, and leisure spaces, including a gym, playing fields, and a water park with a pool accessible via a ramp. A unique structure in Lignano, it is equipped to host people with mobility disabilities but not only: among accessibility structural features and a team trained to interact with people with different types of needs, it combines the possibility of doing adapted sports and staying on-site for even large groups.
After lunch in the village, we visited the beach, equipped with walkways, accessible changing rooms, raised sunbeds, and JOB chairs for entering the water.
By bike along the Tagliamento
In the afternoon we left the beach to reach Lignano Riviera and follow a section of the route "Lignano Sabbiadoro At the Mouth of the Tagliamento" in a wheelchair with an electric propeller and bicycle, among vegetation, views of the river, and flat pedestrian and cycling paths.
We made a stop at the Belvedere sul Fiume Tagliamento, a new spectacular viewpoint overlooking the water located along the cycling and walking path.
We arrived with Luca at the dock of X River, the boat passage that connects Lignano Sabbiadoro to Bibione and also welcomes bicycles on board. The boarding is accessible to people with reduced mobility via a ramp.
In the area near the dock, there is a nice bar and accessible restrooms: a good opportunity to end the day with an aperitif, watching the sun set over the mouth of the Tagliamento.
From the beach to the SPA: Luca's last day in Lignano
After the early morning swimming training, Luca's last day continued at the Beach Office 6, with a few hours of relaxation between the sea and umbrellas and the opportunity to try out walkways, raised loungers, and JOB chairs, accessibility improvements introduced thanks to the PromoTurismoFVG project "A-mare il Mare". These solutions are also present in other establishments managed by Lignano Sabbiadoro Gestioni, along with accessible cabins and restrooms.
The morning continued at the nearby Bike Point, where Luca discovered the traditional bicycles and inclusive e-bikes available for free: models with a platform to board with one's wheelchair and bicycles with two side-by-side seats. An opportunity to explore Lignano together, choosing different means based on the needs of each family member.
To conclude the stay, a massage at the SPA of the Hotel President, where Luca was a guest during the experience. The hotel has invested in the accessibility of spaces, rooms, and staff training, demonstrating how hospitality and well-being are also fundamental parts of an accessible vacation. X River – connection Lignano-Bibione
Dock of Lignano at the south pier of Marina Uno, near the Restaurant Alla Vecchia Finanza - Lignano Riviera. The boat step transports pedestrians and bicycles and is accessible to people with reduced mobility. The service is seasonal and may be suspended in case of bad weather.
