In recent years, the topic of accessibility in tourism has expanded far beyond physical barriers, increasingly including the digital dimension as well. Websites, booking systems, apps, online communication and digital content are now a fundamental part of the travel experience: if this information is not accessible, tourism stops being accessible too.

Within this context comes the DATIS – Digital Pioneers of Accessible Tourism project, funded by the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia 2021-2027 programme, with the goal of improving the digital accessibility of tourism information in the cross-border area between Italy and Slovenia.

Through the involvement of partners from the tourism, research and accessibility sectors, the project develops tools, guidelines and pilot actions dedicated to more inclusive and accessible tourism. As a project partner, PromoTurismoFVG contributes by sharing its expertise in regional tourism promotion and supporting the dissemination of digital accessibility practices and tools among tourism operators and destinations in Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Save the date in Gorizia on 19 May: the DATIS final event

The partners of the DATIS – Digital Pioneers of Accessible Tourism project invite you to the final project event, which will take place on 19 May 2026 at 10.00 at the Grand Hotel Entourage in Gorizia.

The event will present the main results of the DATIS project and open a discussion on the importance of digital accessibility for inclusive tourism in the cross-border area between Slovenia and Italy.

During the event, the key project outcomes will be presented, including research on the needs and experiences of persons with disabilities in tourism, analyses of digital and physical accessibility, guidelines for more accessible tourism communication, and the DATIS web database.

The central part of the event will be the round table “Co-creating Accessible Tourism: Can We Do It Together?”, during which users, representative organisations, researchers, tourism organisations and project partners will discuss the experiences emerging from the pilot activities, identified needs, and practical opportunities for the future development of accessible tourism.

Simultaneous interpretation between Slovenian and Italian will be available. Interpretation in Italian and Slovenian Sign Language will also be provided.
