PLANNED ITINERARY

Fagagna - FVG in motion 10 thousand steps of health

LENGTH

3528 meters

DEPARTURE

Piazza Unità d'Italia

The route has a total length of about 3,600 meters and starts in Piazza Unità d'Italia, the heart of the town, where the municipal office is also located (Photo 1). There are numerous parking spaces for cars, including for people with disabilities. There is no informational sign or directional indicators for the route.

Note: the reconnaissance of the route, due to the lack of signage, was carried out in the opposite direction to that proposed by the informational sign, which, among other things, is not located at the starting point (Piazza Unità d'Italia), but at an intermediate point, as described later; however, for the purposes of data collection, the result does not change.

Relying solely on the map, one walks on 1.20 m wide porphyry sidewalks (Photo 2) on two sides of the rectangular square; there is a curb on the access ramp to the parking lot (slightly elevated) in the center of the square (Photo 3).

One proceeds for about 50 meters on Via dei Colli, then enters Via Sottocastello, where the sidewalks are no longer present. One walks on a 2.5 m wide cobblestone road that is closed to vehicular traffic (Photo 4). There are no directional signs indicating the correct direction.

From Via Sottocastello, one proceeds on Via Umberto Primo, where the porphyry sidewalk reappears, about 1 meter wide, with narrowing down to 70 centimeters near some public lighting poles (Photo 5). About 300 meters from the start, on Via Umberto Primo, there are some steps on the sidewalk, with a rise of about 5 centimeters (Photo 6 and Photo 7).

At km 0.450, there is a small curb near a ramp with a slope of 5 degrees (Photo 8). Fifty meters further on, in the absence of indicator signs, we rely on the map which indicates to turn onto via Asquini, using the existing pedestrian crossings. On via Asquini, the sidewalks are made of concrete, have a width of about 1.30 m, and there are low curbs near some driveways (Photo 9) and constrictions near the flower beds (Photo 10).

At the intersection with via S. Giovanni in Colle, the sidewalk ends with a curb about 10 cm high (Photo 11); the interactive map (in the absence of indicator signs) indicates to continue on via S. Giovanni in Colle, ascending on a sidewalk without ramps, about 80 cm wide (Photo 12).

Walking on via S. Giovanni in Colle, at km 0.800 approximately from the start, it is necessary to cross the roadway, in a section without a pedestrian crossing (Photo 13), to reach the wider and safer sidewalk on the right side (Photo 14).

After 1 km from the start, on the final stretch of via S. Giovanni in Colle, there is an indicator sign for the 10,000 steps route, positioned in front of a road sign (Photo 15). Before accessing the entrance of the "Collina del Cjastenar" Recreational Natural Park, a stretch of asphalt road about 3 meters wide and approximately 100 meters long is traversed (Photo 16).

At km 1.100, access to the "Collina del Cjastenar" Recreational Natural Park is available (Photo 17), where the ground is partly asphalted and partly consists of fine and loose gravel (Photo 18). Fifty meters further ahead, there is a first fork without an indication sign, where the map suggests taking the right path (Photo 19).

At approximately km 1.200, there is an information board for the route in the park (Photo 20).

N.B. Since it is a municipal park, there are rest and refreshment areas, with numerous benches, tables, playgrounds for children (Photo 21 and Photo 22) and restrooms (Photo 23).

You then continue through the dense network of paths in the park (Photo 24, Photo 25 and Photo 26).

At km 1.900 from the start, it is necessary to overcome steps made of wooden logs and compacted earth, with a handrail on the right; the steps have a rise of about 15 cm, a tread of about 50 cm, and a slope of 15 degrees (Photo 27 and Photo 28).

The staircase allows you to ascend the hill of Cjastenar characterized by the presence of paved paths. Ten meters further on, 2 km from the start, you come across an intersection of paths. There being no directional signs, the map suggests continuing straight (Photo 29), on a paved path (Photo 30).

At km 2.100 you reach the summit of the Hill where we find an area with benches for resting (Photo 31 and Photo 32); the view extends over the Castle of Fagagna, partially obstructed in this season by the presence of tree foliage.

You travel a stretch downhill along a path with a gravel and dirt surface about 1.50 m wide with a slope of about 10 degrees (Photo 33); at this point there are benches for resting.

After completing the route at the summit of the Hill of Cjastenar, it is possible to descend the staircase previously used for the ascent (Photo 34 and Photo 35).

Once the staircase is completed, turn right and cross a bridge to overcome the ditch that leads to a parking and resting area made of grassy grid (Photo 37); here, at km 2.250 from the start, both the information board of the 10,000 steps path (Photo 38) and an information board with historical and landscape notes about the place (Photo 39) are located.

Since there are no directional signs, the map suggests starting from the aforementioned parking area to embark on the trails of the Cjastenar Hill.

Cross the aforementioned bridge again and continue on a stretch already traveled previously, leaving the wooden staircase on the left. There are no indication signs and the interactive map is complex to consult, as the trails intersect with each other.

At km 2.300 you reach a first fork and turn right (the left path was already described previously) (Photo 40); the ground in this stretch shows traces of asphalting and light gravel (Photo 41 and Photo 42).

At km 2.350 from the start, you encounter a second fork and the path splits (Photo 43); the map indicates to take the stretch that rises to the left, with a slope of about 5 degrees.

You arrive at another elevated area of the Cjastenar Park, where you can admire the large cedar of Lebanon; there are benches for resting (Photo 44) and a view of the nearby Fagagna Castle (Photo 45). You continue downhill on a path 0.60 m wide with a reddish gravel surface and a slope of about 8 degrees, which crosses a grassy area (Photo 46). The path widens again to 1 meter (Photo 47) with an asphalt surface.

At km 2.590 you reach the access point of the "Collina del Cjastenar" Recreational Natural Park (Photo 48). The interactive map indicates to continue left while staying near the Collina del Cjastenar: in this section, the path has a slightly compact gravel surface. (Photo 49).

At km 2.700 there is a fork without directional signs; the interactive map suggests continuing on the left branch (Photo 50).

At approximately km 2.780 there is an intersection of paths (Photo 51); the interactive map suggests keeping to the left. The uphill path towards the hill has an initial slope of about 10 degrees, which then eases (Photo 52). After the uphill section, the downhill path leads to the rest area and refreshment point already visited, where the restrooms are located (Photo 53).

Note: the restrooms in the Park are in a very neglected state, with several functional deficiencies (one lacks water) and show an insufficient level of cleanliness.

3 km from the start, continue straight on the previously taken path, leaving the restrooms and the playground on the right (Photo 54 and Photo 55); near the entrance to the park (Photo 56), the map invites you to take a right track suggesting a U-turn (Photo 57). In this section (Photo 58) the track is about 1 meter wide and the surface is paved.

At about km 3.300 from the start, in the absence of directional signage, the interactive map indicates to leave the paved path and take the dirt trail to the left among the grassy areas (Photo 59); the track è is narrow (0.30m) and has a slight downhill slope;

At km 3.400 from the start, the dirt section has a descent of about 8 degrees; the ground è uneven and medium-sized stones can be seen on the path (Photo 60).

After walking a few dozen meters, the track returns to flat and becomes almost completely grassy (Photo 61).

At km 3.540 the dirt path enters a wider section of road, characterized by asphalt and gravel (Photo 62). Twenty meters further on, you find yourself near one of the exits from the Cjastenar Hill Park, where è there is a closed barrier (Photo 63); you pass it and face a short stretch with a slope of about 10 degrees (Photo 64), before entering a dirt road, with medium-sized gravel. Here è there is a sign indicating the 10,000 steps path (Photo 65).

Proceed along the dirt road towards the town of Fagagna; It è characterized by a ground of earth and gravel with a central strip of grass (Photo 66 and Photo 67)

At km 3.860 the dirt section ends near the first houses of the town center; you proceed on a roadway open to vehicular traffic (Photo 68), corresponding to via Stalletti, where there are no sidewalks on either side of the roadway (Photo 69). After the junction with Via S. Antonio, it is possible to proceed safely, on the section of roadway reserved for the pedestrian and cycling path (Photo 70 and Photo 71).

At km 4.250 from the start, you pass via S. Antonio, where there is the sign indicating 10,000 steps (Photo 72) and you enter Via Umberto I, traveling to the right for about a hundred meters, until you return to the starting point of the route, in Piazza Unità d'Italia (Photo 73).
